According to the BBC, thousands of Alan’s colleagues in BBC have taken part in a vigil to mark 100 days since he was kidnapped. 100 balloons were released by the man’s parents in Scotland. Meanwhile, Hamas has reiterated that they are trying to secure his release. The BBC website has an online petition which is addressed to anyone who has “any influence on the situation to increase their efforts to secure Alan’s immediate release”. Oxfam is to permanently leave Sudan’s refugee camp after its aid workers are attacked by rebel factions. According to a Al Jazeera report, an aid worker was raped, an Oxfam staff member beaten and others subjected to mock executions on three aid bases in the camp of Gereida in December.
Oxfam used to provide water and sanitation, healthcare and livelihood education to 130,000 Darfuris encamped around Gereida town. After they leave, the International Committee for the Red Cross will help with the provision of water.
