Riots Against Vice in La Paz

Posted by Charles on October 22, 2007

In the outskirts of La Paz, the capital city of Bolivia, parents have started a riot, burning bars and brothels, and blaming the local police for condoning vice in their neighbourhood.

According to this Al Jazeera news clip, parents are furious that their children have been dragged into these immoral activities. They accused the police of not only not protecting their neighbourhood but also accepting bribes from these establishments. One of the women said she saw a 12 year old drinking in a bar when he should be in school.

The rioters have threatened to continue with the riots until the national government makes an effort to “put an end to alcohol, drug problems and police corruption.”
