Top 5 Questions to ask Obama when he is in Singapore

13 Oct

These are the top 5 questions I would like to ask Obama when he drops by Singapore for APEC. Not that there is a fair chance of it being asked or that the mainstream media would do the favour. I thought these were quite appropriate questions since he has just won the Nobel Peace Prize. After all, they pertain to human rights and peace issues:

1. Since you have won the Nobel Peace Prize, what would you do for the people who are living under the American occupation in Afghanistan and Iraq? Would you withdraw American troops from both countries?

2. What will be done for those (who have been locked up in Gitmo and the other secret rendition prisons) caught up in the US war on terror so that fair justice is done?

3. Would you support the democratic aspirations of the Palestinians who are living under the Israeli occupation? For a start, what would you do to ensure that Israel stop the building of illegal settlements in West Bank and Jerusalem? What would you do to ensure that justice is done?

4. Your administration supports engagement with the Burmese junta and views Iran as a nuclear threat. Broadly tell us how how you would proceed so that: a) the military government will respect the human rights of its people? How would you ensure that power is transferred to Aung San Syu Kyi and her party?; b) the regime in Iran would respect the human rights of its people?

5. Would you reform the IMF so that it stops loaning criminal regimes (e.g. Honduras) and start doing the work it was initially proposed by Keynes to do – stabilise the global economy?
